So for my story the main character has to meet a friend who will help them survive. However my problem is the main character is distrusting and the friend is very cautious and a bit selfish. Sort of like a lone wolf. I've thought about having the friend pass by and help when in need but it goes against his character design. I need to give him a valid reason why he should trust the main character.

  • Hi Curious, welcome to writing.se! Take the tour and visit the help center to learn about our site. This question is currently off-topic because it is asking for a plot idea to solve your specific situation. We don't do idea generation as a rule, see this meta for more information. You could instead edit this into a general question about maintaining plot when two characters personalities make it unlikely they would work together, using your characters as an example. Good luck.
