It may be legitimate and necessary to use a letter in a court of law and yet not be lawful to publish that letter. I think it is a wise decision to consult a lawyer, especially if the situation is "far from harmless". Good luck with your project, if (as it seems) this is about coming to terms with or righting a wrong. | |

I have another issue that I need to discuss with a lawyer anyway, so I will ask then. Thanks for the input. I will take it to court if it still seems important when the book is done. | |
