On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Full elections have three phases and an optional fourth phase (Primary):

  1. Question Collection
  2. Nomination
  3. Primary
  4. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

Hi all, I am Secespitus and I would love to serve as a moderator on our lovely site to keep it as clean and thriving as it is now. I am participating in lots of community moderation activities, such as editing, flagging and participating on meta. I am also active on many other sites and know what's happening on the network.

Don't be fooled by my relatively low reputation. I have participated on the main site a lot, but I am regularly giving out bounties to help questions get the attention they deserve. You can check with this SEDE query. Be sure to choose "Writers" in the "switch sites" box on the bottom left - yeah, it's the old name.

I mainly want to be a moderator to help clean our site fast whenever it needs some cleaning, for example when we have spammers polluting our site. Otherwise the site is doing fine already and most stuff can easily be handled by the community. There are enough active and dedicated members to handle things such as the queues and guiding new users.

I am from Europe and you can often find me in the chat.

I would like your support in joining our terrific Writing.SE moderation team; to work with them to divide the workload and make sure Writing continues to run smoothly, with all moderation tasks addressed in a timely fashion.

In my (near) year here, I’ve risen to become one of the most active users: I’ve asked 25 questions and answered 406. I comment frequently and welcome newcomers. I’ve edited 576 posts, retagged countless more, reviewed hundreds, raised 85 helpful flags, cast 1000+ votes, and am active in Meta, including running several weeks of a successful Tags of the Week promo.

I run multiple mailing lists, Facebook groups, and websites. My first mailing list, a support group for a particular health issue, began in 1990 and it’s still going strong, almost 30 years later.

Over the decades, I’ve run into pretty much every moderation issue imaginable. I focus on fairness, process, respect, caring, and—when absolutely necessary—a big hammer. My goal is a warm welcoming place free from harassment. A place where we can become better writers (or editors, teachers, publishers, etc) and exchange information about expressing ourselves through the written word.

This election is over.
